Take Me Back

Take me back on the dirty city tube
to the alleys and the pubs
I used to love

to the filthy streets
where the mind could wonder
the dark passage
where people spit and piss

Take me back to my youth
to my fearless footsteps
to the decisions
I could easily make

Oh how I long for the beauty before
before the world was over
when we raced on the staircase
going up to Piccadilly

how I miss the smell of smog
the engines working
the streets flooding
the strangers touching

Take me back to before
and I promise I won’t tell
I won’t warn you for the now
that came cruel to find me older

but never compromised…
